Customer Reviews

Poor Manufacturing QualityThese boots were purchased in November of 2014. After four months and no more than a couple dozen easy days of wear, the threading has begun to unravel and the leather separate. I have had great luck with Rockport over the years, but these have been the exception. Rockport was contacted, but has (politely) declined to stand behind its product. Be wary of a company and product that may no longer be what they used to be.1Wore the shoes and within hours the soles are detaching. The headline says it all. The shoes were received (very late but that is an Amazon issue) and the first day of wearing them, within 3 hours (of only walking to the car, driving to work, and walking to my desk at work) the soles of the shoes are pulling away from the actual shoe. Not sure if this is a Rockport issue or a Zappos issue. Regardless, this does not make me inclined to purchase further shoes through this avenue. Likely just throwing these in the trash as I suspect Goodwill will not even accept them.1Great Boots With a CaveatI have purchased several pairs of these boots. They are my preferred foot-ware and I wear them all time, often in harsh conditions. Of the three pairs I have purchased, one pair split at the seam connecting the boot to the sole (near the toe box). It took 6-7 months to happen, but it did happen. Better/stronger stitching should be used there. The main (and ongoing) defect with the boot is a minor, but persistent one. The laces. The laces are flat, cotton laces and they are terrible. You WILL break them within a few weeks. They're just too wimpy for the job and it's regrettable this hasn't been resolved yet. Forty-inch waxed, round laces are the only appropriate laces for these shoes unless you're just going to put them on a shelf and stare at them.Otherwise, still love the look and feel of the boot. I hope they never stop making them (just improve the stitching and the laces, please).4Comfortable, goes with anything, lasted a few years for me!I've owned two pairs of these boots. They're probably the footwear I wear most often. They're comfortable, waterproof, and they look good enough to wear with a lot of different outfits, from outdoorsy/hiking to casual/smart casual. The first pair I bought were the brown leather, then I got a black waterproof pair as well. I will say, I prefer the brown much more to the black, the leather is softer and feels more like an old baseball glove after wearing them for awhile. The black leather seems treated differently and it's a bit stiffer and less conforming to my feet. This isn't uncomfortable by any means, it's just a different experience.I should note that the brown leather pair did start to separate at the sole on one side after a couple years of regular use. I haven't been able to find anything suggesting Rockport will fix them or replace them, and I've even had them professionally repaired once, but they're still pretty much done for. I don't consider this a defect necessarily, I did wear them a ton, but something to note.5Best all-around bootI've always had a good experience with Rockport footwear; these boots firmly substantiate that claim! With durable, well-stitched, excellent suede-like waterproof material, these boots perform flawlessly in the dead of New England winter. Trekking through the snow the other day, I may as well have been waltzing around my living room in my slippers aside the fireplace. The comfort and warmth is more than enough to get you by (even if you are stuck inside at work all day like me). Fortunately, these boots are somewhat breathable and do not seem to "overheat" at all. Overall, these boots are a worthy blend of comfort, function, and style and I would recommend them to just about anyone!5Originally 5 Star - Now A 1So, I first tried these on via the Prime Wardrobe & thought they were highly comfortable. I compared them to a similar model from Rockport but chose these for their color, design, and feel. I liked that they were waterproof, one of my main reasons for buying a boot. I liked the insoles & the leather seemed decent. They were quite comfortable around the house, checking the mail, and a trip to the store - so I kept them. However, after a few weeks of wearing them & having walked a lot, the comfort is largely gone. I walk an above average amount in a day, but not a tremendous amount. Also, wearing these a significant amount of time even while at a desk becomes uncomfortable. There is a section where the lace eyes & tongue are sewn onto the upper that rubs & presses on the top of the foot. They are mostly waterproof, though "water resistant"; may be a better term. Water can easily enter if it rolls across the tongue/eye area. The leather is treated with some waterproof coating so it doesn't darken & soak up water like leather will do. Though, this does mean you cannot polish the boots by normal means. Overall, these boots are worth about a third or half of what I paid for them. I wish I had tried harder to find something that really fit what I wanted.UPDATE:Do NOT buy these. Under 6 months of use and they are almost falling apart. The soles are separating from the uppers and water seeps in like a wick and the toe-box becomes a swamp. Comfort is completely gone. I now have to find some new boots ASAP to replace this garbage.1Order a 1/2 size smaller!I normally wear a size 9 and when they came in, they were way to big. I had to send them back for a half size smaller. I should have read the comments because it s not just my issue. The smaller size fits and they are very comfortable and put together well. Glad I went with them.*Update- I'm actually having to change my original review. I've owned several pairs of Rockport shoes in the past and this is the first time that I've had this kind of issue. I don't wear them daily, maybe once a week since I purchased them back in December/January, and they are already starting to fall apart on me. I've attached a picture to show where it's separating from the sole. The shoes are comfortable, but for the price, I would expect them to last a lot longer than they have.2were very comfortable and looked niceBought these boots last Feb and is now the following Jan, I have only worn the boots during the more wintery/fall days. The bottom of the boot is already almost worn in one section and will shortly crack so water can get in. Inside the right foot of the boot, across the ball of my foot, has cracked open, so you can almost feel a "valley" when you walk and is most uncomfortable. The boots up to this point, I thought, were very comfortable and looked nice, but for as much as I have worn them, they shouldn't be in this bad of shape, especially for the price. Very disappointed.1Well-made shoe, but too tight on ankles and not up to normal Rockport precisionI have been a user of Rockport shoes for some 30 years. These are typical high Rockport quality. The leather is strong, the soles designed to grip. Unfortunately, the design has two main problems. One, the ankle openings are too narrow, so when the shoe is closed they tend to bite a bit. I do not have fat ankles, by the way. Also, they are a little bigger for the size than normal Rockport shoes. My left foot is a little smaller than my right (many people have a slight size difference in their feet) , and normal Rockport shoes fit just fine. But the left shoe was too big in the heel cup, to the point it made the shoe ride up and down on the heel as I walked. Even if the ankles didn't pinch, this would have destroyed my foot after a while. I don't know what the company was going for, but a little more design work and human testing would have masde this a good product. As it is, I cannot recommend it3Typical Rockport quality, value, comfort, and styleFull disclosure, I'm a huge Rockport fan. I've bought their shoes and boots for years because they've always fit me well and they make a really comfortable shoe at a decent price that has always held up pretty well for me.To begin, I bought the "Tan" color and these are anything but tan. These are a dark chocolate brown in a flat finish nubuck leather with a brown / grey synthetic sole. But they look exactly like the photo in the product listing and that's what I wanted so I don't really care what Rockport calls the color. These are also made with Rockport's proprietary "Hydro Shield" design which makes them waterproof and that was important to me because I live in New England. Fall is wet and winters come with snow, slush, ice, and salt. So having a reasonably fashionable Chukka boot that can handle the weather is just practical. I've owned another pair of Rockport Hydro Shield Chukka boots for about three years and they have worked fine for me.Are these a high end fashion boot with stitched leather soles? No! But they look pretty good and the lugged rubber soles will do better in mud and slush than a flat leather sole. Also the waterproof uppers will survive a lot better than dress shoe leather while being much easier to keep looking good. And finally, these are 1/3 to 1/4 the price of a delicate high end fashion boot. That made the decision a lot easier. Also, the Rockport partnership with Adidas has produced a dress boot with near running shoe comfort. These are incredibly comfortable right out of the box. I wear a size 11 D (medium) width. That's what I ordered and they fit me perfectly. A fashion boot is not going to have this level of comfort. Also it's really hard to find a nice looking men's ankle height boot that doesn't have a zipper on the side. I guess I'm old fashioned but those seem like fake boots to me and something a poseur would wear. I want a men's boot styled like a men's boot right down to a functional lacing system not some zipper closure destined to fail or leak water.I bought these boots to go with a new dark brown distressed leather jacket and leather flat cap for fall and winter and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Rockport wins again.5
