Customer Reviews

Perfect lengthI have used Kryptonite products in the past, and I was pleased with their quality. This is no exception. Before I bought this 30 ft cable, I had a $1000+ bicycle stolen from in front of my suburban house in a good neighborhood, while I was in the house. With my new bike, it is either in my sight, or it is attached to this cable. The cable attaches to the back of my garage. It is long enough that I can bring the bike to my driveway to wash it, and feel like I can go in and out of my house without being fearful that the bike will be gone when I return to it.It is a good solid cable. Like any security device, it can be breached with time and the right tools. But it will certainly keep the "grab and run" thief from stealing the bike and making his getaway in less than a minute. 5Better than chainI use one of these cables to secure my portable RV surge protector and one more to protect the 2 RV propane tanks. These will not stop a determined thief, but better than an unsecured item which can walk off and disappear. Cable has a protective coating to prevent damage to the secured item. 5Suffiecient To Deter The Casual ThiefAs many other reviewers have said, this is adequate to deter the casual thief. It is long enough to go through the rear wheel, seat, frame and get the front wheel and capture a small secure point, such as a fence post, bike rack, etc. If you want to do all that and capture a tree trunk, you will need additional cable or chain. The eyes can be put inside the shackle of an ordinary padlock. I put both ends in one of those common combination padlocks that have used for lockers. No, their not heavy duty security, but tools can get through the heaviest duty combos made. Bedsides, what are you trying to secure? I'm only trying to deter theft of a $150 bike. No point of spending more for security than you did your bike. 4Solid buildI have bought Kryptonite double loop cables for quite some time (since at LEAST 2004) to protect my Santa Cruz Heckler mountain bike. At least 14 years later, and thankfully none of my bikes have yet been stolen. What I like a lot about these cables is that not only do they appear solid, they also can be looped with additional ones to make longer cables. So, whenever I go out on biking trips with friends, I tend to bring a few extra to help lock up those bikes whose owners didn't bring one. 5Serves it purpose - Buy a U-Lock for primary security!!!DO NOT USE AS YOUR PRIMARY MEANS OF LOCKING YOUR BIKE!Now that we got that disclaimer out of the way, onto the review. I use this to secure my front wheel, rear wheel, and bike seat to my bike U-lock (Abus Mini140). I use the same setup on my wife's bike This should be the only use for any nylon coated wire rope for securing your bike regardless of brand.PROS:+Good length to offer flexibility and allows me to easily secure the front wheel, rear wheel, and bike seat to my U-lock. We also use it to loop to our Burley trailer if we feel it is needed.+I felt the price was fair for the length and gauge.CONS:-None really, just know it's intended purpose. Also, take note that time and time again it has been proven that no flexible wire rope has proven to be better then any other. They are all easily defeated quickly with wire/bolt cutters. Look for the right length you need and a good price. 5Don't trust this product - cut the first time I used itReceived this "security" cable and was excited to use it given the positive reviews. The first time I used it I locked my frame to our apartment complex's bike bracket and used the "security" cable through the wheels.Next day I see what's pictured. The cable was easily cut, there limited fraying where it was cut and there was no additional damages or scratches to the cable meaning it was probably pretty effortless to cut.Don't trust this product, the thieves no how to easily cut it. 1Good cable for securing bike wheelThis cable is excellent for securing your bike wheels and possibly seat to your main "U" lock. Price is good, it is flexible, easy to use and carry. I would not use this as a primary way to lock your bike Its for secondary supplemental use. 5Good long cable for low crime areas. The cable is long enough for me to loop through my frame, rear wheel and drivetrain, to the front wheel. Works well for locking up a low value commuter bike in a low crime area. Wouldn t use this for a more expensive machine or in a higher crime area like a big city. I d use multiple high security U-locks if you re biking around a place like Oakland, CA or NYC. That said I don t know why you would ride something worth stealing to commute around town. Seriously, get a Walmart bike. Those Trek commuters are just asking to be stolen, stripped, and sold for parts. 5Specialized Cable That's Great For Specific Uses.I have a heavy U-lock (Abus Granit Plus 640) that secures my bike frame and the rear wheel to a bike rack. I also have a quick-release seat. I pull this KryptoFlex 525 cable through the one of the stays on the bottom of the seat, then run one loop through the other loop, and then run the through loop down to the U-lock. This cable also narrow enough to fit through my helmet, so I don't have to carry it around. A second short, but heavier, cable is used in the same way to secure the quick release front wheel to the U-lock. Someone who with a good pair of wire cutters who knew what they were doing could probably go through this KryptoFlex 525 in a few minutes, but to get a used helmet and seat? This deters crimes of opportunity, not a professional thief; realize what you're purchasing. The KryptoFlex 525 is small and light weight and also used with the second short cable to suspend the U-lock between the seat stays and the rear bike rack while I'm riding, too, eliminating the need to carry the U-lock with brackets on the down tube. In short, it's perfect for what I need. 5Good cable - long enough to lock up components. On a 60cm bike with a very high seatpost this is long enough to lock up my saddle, rear wheel, and Vector pedal (left side only). I lock my bike with an Abus Bordo X-Plus (like a U lock but the U is in flexible segments instead of a rigid U). I put the lock around the front wheel and frame, and this short cable is enough to add a little deterrent to the bike components. I don't have any theft protection on the cockpit beyond the brake and shifter cables. As it stands, someone would have to use tools to take most things off my bike - they could get the skewers - nothing else comes to mind...I can fit this cable in my back jeans pocket, but also I am 6'4" so IDK whether that would be true for smaller people. I wear 34" waist jeans.I'm still searching for a way to easily/quickly carry this on the bike but so far IDK. Also fits in a jersey pocket. The velcro cable tie is a nice touch - keeps it from springing open when coiled in a pocket. I wish it was smaller. I wish there was no theft in the world.BTW I'm sure most people know this already, but just in case this is the only text you ever read on locking up a bike: the trick to getting the most out of a double-loop cable is feeding it through one of its own loops. One end is looped around a wheel or saddle rail or whatever, and the other loop goes through the lock. That way you get double the coverage - or half the cable length - as you would putting your main lock through both loops of the cable.HTH,Michael 5
